New Media & Convergence

There are no doubt that in the past, media only have radio or newspaper. However, stepping into the 21st century, with the state-of-the-art technology and media, we are now having the internet so we can connect to the world everywhere, every time we want. We don’t need to read the newspaper with the traditional way by paper anymore. Now almost people have modern technology such as a smartphone, tablet or Ipad it can replace for a newspaper. We also don’t need to watch TV on the television, now we have Youtube, Google so that we can watch everything we want just by a few minutes to find on the internet.

And the way to reading newspaper also changed

In my opinion, everything always had two sides aspect. It’s actually got a large of benefits fo human’s life but also have the disadvantages. First of all, I will talk about the advantages that media bring to the life. Media not only help people easy to connect with the world  but also in education, work and life. For example, thanks to media, internet and facebook, we can easy keep in touch with family and friends and also can make new friends. Moreover, students can google to find information in order to broaden their horizon. As an international student, based on some websites, clip on Youtube, find new vocabulary , I can improve my English. Another benefit we can get from media to education is that we can create a group to study together on Facebook, or study online. In addition, to connect to each other, now we have Gmail, yahoo which can help us easy to send messages, to exchange information, documents or files.

Let’s watch this video below:

As we can see that, media through meaning video can send the messages to young people, they can change their mind, their behavior, although it’s just an advertisement clip about insurance, however, this is also the new way to educate the new generation by new media and convergence via the meaning messages.

On the other hand, regarding  what disadvantages bring to human’s life is that we can depend too much on media also technology. For example, nowadays, some people lost their way to communicate in real life, they just can chat on the internet, in the fake life. Moreover, it also has a lot of situation which consists of hacking, defraud by social media.

To the best of my knowledge, as an international student, media convergence have a lot of meanings to me. For example, I can call to my mom even I am studying abroad, it’s mean I have to live far away from my home, so that without media, I cannot connect to my family and my friends who live in my country. Moreover, I also can update the news, emails or information from school which help me a lot in my study. In addition, I also cannot relax after a hard studying day by watch some video on the internet or play a game. Furthermore, when I feel tired or disheartened, some media video such as “A meaningful video about kindness”above make me feel better, believe in life, have new hope and encourage me 🙂

  2. Hello Han!
Your ideas about media convergence have so much relevance in today’s world. I especially like how you link your own personal experiences of student exchange with the act of being converged. I agree with your argument of the positive aspects of media convergence as it allows for an international connection. I didn’t realise how much I was ‘converged’ until I sat in last week’s lecture, your post has reinforced how I think of media convergence as an everyday occurrence. Despite the negative aspects of media convergence that you’ve discussed, I think as a society we can make sure our morality remains in tact in the ‘media realm’. Thank you for such a delightful post, I can’t wait to read more!
